+44 (0) 207 262 0022Located in a recently renovated Victorian building, The Caesar Hotel showcases inside a unique collection of authentic Roman mosaics made in the ancient province of Syria between the 2nd and 6th centuries AD, which decorate the hotel’s common areas, including the lobby, restaurant, and meeting room.
Completing the hotel's decor are original collages and lithographs by Catalan artist Francesc Guitart, created especially for the hotel.
In Roman times, mosaic was a luxury item found in wealthy homes. The exhibited pieces, dated from the 2nd to the 6th century AD, display the polychromy of Syrian mosaics and an iconography that explores a range of themes, from geometric patterns to plant and animal motifs.
In the mosaics on display, we can see elephants, lions, deer and birds, documenting the fauna that inhabited the Syrian region in classical times, alongside domestic and decorative elements used by the Roman elite.
The Caesar Hotel combines art and elegance in the heart of London, with a collection of archaeological pieces displayed throughout the hotel.
